Snapchat Announces New Snap Originals and a Creator Marketplace

The marketplace will allow creators and businesses to easily work together through advertising and marketing.

Spent lockdown burning through everything video streaming services have to offer? Looking to expand your mind even further? Check out the new slate of Snap Originals, set to debut this year.

“Made-for-mobile shows started on Snapchat,” the company wrote in a blog announcement, boasting a library of more than 128 original series and an impressive Gen Z following.

“Our new slate is a reflection of our community—what they care about, and the stories and personalities they love,” the blog said. “From shining a light on social issues and racial injustice, to honest conversations on mental health, to the impacts of climate change—our shows speak to the issues most important to the Snapchat Generation.”

Look for unscripted stories featuring Megan Thee Stallion (with her celebrity friends and their pets), Charlie and Dixie D’Amelio, and LGBT icon Manny MUA; a bunch of teen docuseries; a futuristic YA drama; and a sketch comedy show starring you.

More content offerings means more monetization opportunities. Enter the Creator Marketplace, where businesses can partner with mobile creators “in a scaled and seamless way.” Opening later this month for all businesses to partner with a select group of AR creators through 2021, the forum will expand next year to include all Snap creators.

“For businesses, this is a new opportunity to leverage the creativity and expertise of Snap creators—who know the Snapchat Generation best—to drive ROI [return on investment] for Snapchat marketing activity,” the blog said. “For creators, it opens the door to greater partnership opportunities with all kinds of brands so that creators can build their own business on Snapchat.”
